How to Prepare for Your First Skydiving Lesson

Posted on

Skydiving is an exhilarating experience that can make you feel alive. If you're at all curious, it's definitely worth it to give it a try at least once. When you go for your first trip, you'll have an instructor dive with you to teach you and ensure your safety. However, you may still feel some anxiety before going through with the experience. Try these tips to prepare for your first skydiving lesson.

Verify Drop Zone Credentials

The U.S. Parachute Association has strict guidelines for skydiving facilities, known as drop zones (DZs), to join their organization. Verify that the drop zone you choose is a member of the U.S. Parachute Association.

Get a Good Night's Sleep

You shouldn't take on a strenuous experience, such as skydiving, without a proper night's sleep. You'll have a clear head and plenty of energy when it comes time to jump. If you're tired, you may not enjoy the experience as much. You may also not comprehend the instructor's lessons as well as if you had a good night's sleep.

Eat Light (But Do Eat)

Skydiving can make the stomach turn. If you have a lot of food in your stomach, your nerves may cause you to vomit before or during the jump. However, an empty stomach can increase your nerves. Eat light and choose what you eat wisely. Choose lean foods high in protein and other nutrients.

Dress Appropriately

Clothes will have an impact on your comfort and sometimes your jump. You need to be comfortable, but you don't want your clothes to be too loose. Loose clothing can slow you down during your jump. It can also catch onto something and cause an accident. Wear yoga pants and a tee shirt or hoodie with sneakers. You don't necessarily need a skydiving jumpsuit, but it's a great time to wear it if you have one.

Enjoy Yourself

Skydiving is a fun experience. Allow yourself to enjoy it. If you feel nervous, practice breathing exercises and reciting positive affirmations in your head until the anxiety goes away. Once your anxiety gets as low as it's going to get, go for it!  Once you jump, open your eyes! Look at the world from a new perspective. Don't forget to get a picture of your jump to remind you of the experience.

Don't let fear hold you back from an amazing experience any longer. Schedule your first skydiving lesson today.
